Gears on a mountain bike are used to adjust the resistance of pedaling to make it easier or harder. The left shifter controls the front gears, while the right shifter controls the rear gears. To use gears on a mountain bike, start by selecting a moderate gear before setting off, then adjust gears for easy pedaling on descents and harder pedaling on climbs. Shift gears gradually and refrain from cross-chaining (using the largest gear in both front and back) to prevent damage to the drivetrain.

To upgrade brakes on a mountain bike, start by selecting high-quality brakes that are compatible with your bike’s frame and fork. Remove the old brakes and install the new ones, making sure to properly adjust and align them. Consider upgrading brake pads as well to improve stopping power. Test the brakes and make any necessary adjustments before taking the bike out on a ride.

A 26 mountain bike refers to the wheel size of the bike which is 26 inches in diameter. This size of mountain bike was highly popular in the past but is being replaced by larger wheel sizes such as 27.5 inches or 29 inches for better efficiency and improved riding experience. The size of a 26 mountain bike frame can vary based on the manufacturer and model of the bike, but it typically ranges from 14.5 inches to 22 inches in height.

For a 5’11” man, the ideal mountain bike frame size would be a medium to large frame, generally falling between 17-19 inches or 43-48 cm in height. However, personal preferences and riding style can also factor into choosing the appropriate size. It is essential to take into account the inseam length and flexibility to ensure the bike fits comfortably and provides maximum efficiency and control.

To adjust chain tension on a mountain bike, first, shift the bike onto the smallest chainring and the smallest sprocket. Next, loosen the bolts on the rear wheel and slide it back towards the seat tube to increase tension or forward towards the fork to decrease tension. Make sure the wheel is straight, retighten the bolts, and check the tension with a chain gauge or by pressing on the chain. Repeat if necessary until the chain has the correct tension.

Road bikes are typically more expensive than mountain bikes due to the higher cost of materials and components used. Road bikes require lightweight frames and components designed for speed and efficiency, which are often made from high-quality materials such as carbon fiber. On the other hand, mountain bikes prioritize durability and require heavier components such as suspension systems, which can be made from less expensive materials like aluminum. In addition, road bikes often come with a more extensive range of gears and higher-end brakes, contributing to their higher price tag.
